Azure Active Directory Synchronization Services (AAD Sync) now available
While Microsoft has designed Office 365 and Exchange Online to support all kinds of organizations, until today there has still been a big hole in the offering for organizations that have multiple on-premises Active Directory forests. With the release of Azure Active Directory Synchronization Services Microsoft has now filled that hole and made it possible for many more organizations to make the move to Office 365.
It has been possible to migration into Office 365/Exchange Online from some multi-forest sources using FIM and the AAD Connector, but this process required a lot of FIM knowledge and in many cases the involvement of Microsoft Consulting Services to complete the migration. Azure Active Directory Synchronization Services is a new tool based on FIM that allows us to connect 3 different configurations of on-premises multi-forest environments to Office 365/Exchange Online with a 4th configuration coming soon.
I’ll be going more in-depth on Azure Active Directory Synchronization Services in this space over the coming days and weeks but in the mean time I’ll be covering all 4 scenarios in my IT/DEV Connections session of Identity and Authentication Management for Office 365 Wednesday morning.
The below links will get you started with Azure Active Directory Synchronization Services.
